All That Glitters is Gold

Gold is the new black, am I right?
Gold is super trendy right now and although I previously have not been a gold loving girl (give me diamonds and bling!), I’ve been sucked in and am not turning back anytime soon. Although to clarify that would be in paper crafting, not on the fashion side…still not loving gold that way but I’m working on it. ;)
So, what’s the deal with loving on gold? Check it – The All That Glitters is Gold challenge at Moxie Fab World.

This is definitely one of those cards that I would say looks SO much better in person! ;)
I started out with a sheet of vellum and ran a Crisp Cantaloupe ink pad over it to create the streaky background. Then I heat embossed the medallion/doily images in gold, but before embossing I blew onto the vellum piece to push some of the powder off the images. This gave them a distressed look, but also achieved some loose powder to add more flecks of gold to the  background.
I adhered the vellum sheet to a Naturals White base and then added a sentiment strip also embossed in gold, along with some lace, cardstock strip, gold brad and a handful of gold sequins.
So, you likey the gold? I have a few more ideas I want to try, but challenge or not I’m excited to add some more gold to my life. ;)

Watercolor Butterflies

W is for Wednesday and W is also for Watercoloring! :)
The challenge over at SUO Challenges is to create a project using your favorite technique and I absolutely LOVE to use my Aqua Painter and ink pads to watercolor on my cards and projects! (Check out this card and this card for variations on this technique!)

To create this look I embossed the butterflies with clear embossing powder and then used Coastal Cabana ink and my Aqua Painter to streak ink over the butterflies. The embossing will resist the ink leaving a pretty cool background!
The I just piled on a few goodies that I’ve been loving as of late - Ruffle trim, washi tape, chevron ribbon, glimmer paper and of course an itty bitty butterfly topped with a rhinestone!
There are so many techniques I love but adding these splashes of color to my cards with an ink pad an Aqua Painter is super easy and I love it! Give it a try!

Hello Lovely Card Set

Sometimes you get an idea in your head for a card or project that just won’t go away until you make it. This was one of those projects!

The talented ladies over at the Friday Mashup have a challenge to make some quick 3x3 cards. I ended up not doing the mash-up part (adding washi tape) but loved making these little cards! Now I will probably have to back and do the mashup because these were so fun! :)
I used the decorative label punch and a post-it note to create a masking piece. Adhere the mask piece in the center of the vanilla cardstock and stamp the woodgrain background over top. Remove the mask piece and you’ll have an opening to stamp the hello lovely sentiment in the center! Seriously quick and easy but super fun!

Back to School Cards

So it’s been awhile that I’ve shared some projects here! ;) Let’s change that shall we?

My Momma has jumped into stamping (more like dove in head first!) and I couldn’t be happier! She’ll text me pictures of cards she’s made and we chat about our wish lists from the Stampin’ Up! catalog. It’s the best!

She sent the kids cards that we got the Friday before school started and they definitely brought a smile to their faces! That cute little gesture made me want to give my kiddos a card on their first day of school! Granted, this is their third week of school so I’m just a little slow showing these, ha!

I had their cards sitting out for when they got home as a surprise after the first day.

Brady’s card

I wanted to make them something that I thought reflected their personalities and hoped they would like. Although they didn’t say much, I’m pretty sure they liked them. :)

We’re back in homework and school mode, right along with Jake and Brady in football season with practices each night and games on the weekend. Gwynie has been loving her pottery class and spends lots of time in the art room after school several days a week working on projects, and she also joined the Pottery Club. So needless to say we’ve still been busy but we’re loving every minute of it!
